Wilderness First Aid (WFA)
Standard first aid training in the USA, takes into account that Emergency Medical Services are typically only minutes away, and relies heavily on this fact. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) adds additional knowledge in greater detail on first aid emergencies. WFA takes into account that in some locations and situations Emergency Medical Services (EMS) may not be able to reach the location for hours, or even days. WFA prepares students to not only respond to an emergency, but that other factors need to be considered, such as, a lack of readily available medical equipment, facing exposure to outdoor elements, and delayed response times. One of the focal points of Wilderness First Aid training is the need for extended medical treatments, as additional care will be required, rather than the standard stabilization treatments taught in a traditional first aid class
